I don’t think you will get the toe box you want for long time minimalist wearers.

Feeling inside the lining felt damp above the toe box.

I wore them for an entire day, just doing normal activities (no hikes or long walks) and despite that I really wanted these to work, my outer toes make contact with the boot because of the narrow taper in the toe box (which is obvious in the photo).

At first, I thought they were made from cheap materials and had skimped on some things as I was expecting a lot of cushion which these don't have.

Before anyone says it isn't sweat as the soles of my feet were bone dry and that's normally the sweaty part of my feet!

I didn’t want to return them because I was looking forward to the Zero sole experience.

They're just not worth what Amazon or the Manufacturer are charging, especially when you can get a known American made brand name for the same amount of money, you just have to live with a hideous looking pair of shoes and a normal drop sole.

These ran a little bit large in my normal size of 8.5.

After reading many reviews—on Amazon and elsewhere—one recurring theme was that these boots tend to run small and that there is a need to size up by a half size for proper fit.

When the size 9’s arrived they were way too long: there was just too much space between my toes and the front of the boot, and my heel slid around.

For the price of these boots I cannot take a chance that they will break in and loosen up, so, like the size 9’s, they were also returned.

Since I planned on wearing these to work and I walk as my commute I don't want to end up wearing damp shoes for 8 hours+ so I've returned them.

but I returned the 9’s and ordered 8.5.

They run quite narrow
First, a description of my feet: I have E width with a high instep and high arch, and a fairly narrow heel.

A few years ago I decided to try zero drop shoes (Altra) and after going that route I quickly had no more foot pain and was able to completely ditch my orthotics.

The shoes fit as expected.

Its a shame as they felt well made and fit really well with just enough ankle.

One more thing, I went a half size up, fit perfect.

The 8.5’s fit much better as far as length and the rear area holds my heel securely.

I chose a zero drop shoe because I injured my foot hiking last year and these alleviated the pain on the ball of the large toe.

But I need to knock them down a star for the worst laces I've ever had.

I tighten the laces and they immediately loosen before I can tie the knot.

I much prefer the rounder laces on the Xero Prio.

The weird cushioning, short toebox height, lack of breathability, and slippery laces are deal breakers.

The shoelaces are a little too short for a heel lock.

But even just walking around my apartment, I noticed my feet sloppily sliding from side to side in the shoes.

However, the toe box is not tall enough at the very front of the shoe, so my big toenail constantly makes contact with the top of the shoe, making the shoe feel too small

This is my first experience with Altra shoes, and I have to say I do enjoy running in them,

The best thing about the Altra Rivera 2 is the toe box.

• Outsole - Very grippy; if these things hold up like they have in my other Altra shoes, the Rivera 2 will definitely go the distance and should easily hold up well past 400-500 miles.

• Flexibility - As with other Altra shoes, the Rivera 2 is also impressively flexible relative to its stack height.

The wide toe box is very nice and the sizing is true to size.

I love the zero drop construction, wide toebox, and outsole.

With zero drop, wider toe box and designed specifically for midfoot strikers, the Rivera 2 seems to be the perfect indroduction to a barefoot running shoe.

I'll give the Rivera this - it's not overly wide, even for being on the slimmer side as far as lasts go, so my toes did have plenty of room to splay.

but on my second run, the sole started coming apart.

Less than 25miles later the right shoe sole is coming apart.

Wide toe box, and the slightly rocker sole rolls you through.

Coming from altra and hoka shoes, these had a lot to live up to.

If the Hoka Mach 5 and Altra Escalante had a baby, it would be this.

My only other complaint is that the laces are very slippery and short so you have to double tie them and even then sometimes they come undone.

There are a few minor things that would raise my rating to a 5: - The shoe laces are round, short and slick.

These are a little slick on the packed snow and ice.

- The heel is a little wider than my other shoes.

I have very narrow heels so this is even more problematic than my regular shoes.

- Because the toe and heel are at the same level, I've had a tendancy to lean backwards and have to catch myself.

Altra is all I use - they last long and have the support I need as well as the natural toe box.

I ordered my normal size instead of having to order a half size larger to accommodate my orthotic so they fit as expected.

Good Shoes
Toe box allows for toe movement.

The wider, taller box is a much better option than the brand of shoes I've been wearing for the last 7 years and there's plenty of room for my orthotic.

I have been wearing barefoot shoes for a few years now and these did not disappoint in terms of the barefoot feeling.

I wear at work where I walk about 6 miles a day and they have been comfortable.

Compared to the ventures these shoes are horrible.

Excellent for Runners with Wide Forefoot and Narrow Midfoot
If you have a wide forefoot and a narrow midfoot, and/or are searching for something with an Altra fit with better midfoot lockdown, this is the best daily trainer you can buy.

Great shoes so far
They fit as expected, and run true to size for my 10 1/2 sized feet.

I would still recommend these shoes to someone seeking the unique Topo fit as an alternative to the more established brands (e.g., NB Rebel FuelCell v3), or as an alternative to Altra's daily trainers (e.g., Escalante 3).
