I’ve hoped they would stretch some to widen the heel area.

But after 12 plus miles walking they really haven’t stretched and the heel area remains cramped.

My only gripe is that for some reason, i don't seem to be getting a good heel lock in my right foot.

Mi primer par de Altra, un modelo con soporte pero sin ser invasivo muy leve solo si lo necesitas, la espuma es de sensaciones firmes no hay mucho rebote pero a ritmos moderados la sensación es buena, vamos a ver que tanto duran, la suela tiene mucha caucho lo cual me dice que aguantarán  muchos kilómetros, para caminar son excelente opción mucha comodidad en cada paso.

The perfect athletic shoe
I've been searching for a great comfortable shoe for the right price and finally landed on Altra.

What I also love about them is the grip of the soles.

I'll note that they feel very grippy, with a good amount of cushion.

They run true to size, they fit nice and snug, and its just a well built middle range runner.

I bought these as i began running alot and my other Altra's (pre-pandemic) were so deteriorated that they caused me plantar fasciatis That being said, after some physio and such, it seems that these shoes are good for my running style.

Seriously thinking of buying another pair.

Love the gray color for fall, incredible footbed for bunion and plantar facitis, I can walk 5 miles every day and I'm 74! !

There is a lot of room for all the toes to spread which makes these running shoes very comfortable.

This is an amazingly comfortable shoe and it is still going strong despite the mud, dirt, rain, and abuse they were subjected to.

The width of the toe bed and the venting on top kept my feet comfortable and well vented.

but dirt, small gravel can get in shoes around top of shoes and heels.

I felt like my heel was sort of loose a few times.

The heels tend to be wide and you need to play around with lacing to keep the shoes tight.

Those Nikes had a very tight fit with a rock solid heel lock that I had grown accustomed to.

What I don’t like so much: -Primarily I don’t like (or am having a hard time getting used to) how loose the shoe feels in the heel.

I’ve strapped them up as tight as I can tolerate with the laces and my foot still moves around in the heel if the surface I’m running on gets even slightly uneven.

The grip has also worn down significantly over three months of heavy use.

They are still quite snug, even after wearing them in.

However, my toes were wearing a hole in the upper so I knew it was long past time to replace them.

Another Altra favorite
I wrote review about my wide feet and how Altras are my best athletic shoe for comfort by a mile.

Overall, a safe bet if you like Altra shoes.

I have the Altra Paradigm as well, and have never had the slightest problem.

Riviera model is my favorite due to cushion and low cut tongue.

They have awesome cushion, they dry out relatively fast, they are breathable, and the laces are well sized.


The Rivera aren't as minimalist as the Escalante or as cushioned as the Torin or others, and they work well both for long runs and races and for shorter faster runs.

I’ll see how this combo works out for me; I like the idea of a “flat” shoe with substantial cushion.

So overall I’d say these are outstanding road runners for flat surfaces if you want zero drop combined with a substantial cushion.

Really nice shoes, much better design than Altra Lone Peak IMO.

I have never had a problem with the extreme flexibility of the Altra heels in fact I think it aids the shoes based on the needs of a runner using zero drop shoes (more ankle flexion).

Shoe feel- I had few other topo shoes and this is a good average cushion 5mm.

Stronger sole, better seam construction, and the heel is more supportive.

If you are looking for shoes with a wide toe box, these are for you!

The shoes are also very comfortable and appear to be very well made.

No longer have to adapt, make the shoe bigger by wear and tear, and it’s 400% comfortable with wide feet.

but the quality in terms of a running shoe is mediocre.

That said, it was once I started evaluating these shoes for my original goal of using them primarily as running shoes that I realized these weren't the shoes I was looking for.

What I don't like about Altra (and athletic shoes in general) is the colors.

but found its EVA midsole overly firm for anything other than short runs (and ultimately ended up sending my pair back to Altra during the 30-day trial period).

but I have a pair of altra escalante that I've done hundreds of miles in and they seem comparable in quality with what I expect from the brand.

I’ve you’ve worn altra lone peaks they fit true to size.

These were just what I wanted, with a stiff, low stack sole

but heel and midsole hug your foot for a secure feel, the sole thickness is medium and squish level is medium.

I feel stable and screwed in on big powerlifts, solid on Olympic lifts, flexible enough for plyometrics, and just enough cushion for running.

Outsole grip was fantastic, leaving me feeling super connected to the ground no matter how I moved in the shoes.


I ended up wearing these as daily shoes.

These, like other Altras, give my feet some room to move around and are comfortable with the orthotics I am wearing while trying to avoid surgery.

I have been wearing these to work every day that I can, and my toes are slowly starting to feel better.

However, the toe box on the Timp 2 is smaller than the Timp 1.5.

.definately smaller toe box which would cause toe issues and MN flare-ups.

I wish there was a little more room in the toe box.

This pair fits tighter on my right foot than the old pair did out of the box.

I had a plum purple pair of this exact model that fit like a dream.

Part of the problem is that I wear orthotics and there didn't seem to be room for both my foot and the orthotic to fit in the shoe.

I tried wearing them and after about 4 miles of running my Mortons Neoroma kicked in again and I had to run home and take off the shoes.

Tread wears out
I got these shoes because a friend of mine wears them and said she'll never buy another brand.

After 4 mos, the tread is worn out enough that they are now slippery when it's wet outside.

I don’t feel like my feet will stretch out the top of the shoe or roll because of the height.

ALTRA is a great brand and good people to work with.

but no matter what, I am sold on Altra shoe design.

These altras are very cushioned and good for feet that tire easily.

These are very cushy shoes, there is a lot of bounce.

I appreciate the snugness of the top of the shoe and the wider base, because it feels more stable, which is important with all of the cushion.

The sole is very supportive and offers a lot of cushion.

As that person I can confirm they are really comfortable!

but offers that snug feeling so you are not moving all around in your shoe.

And the part that really surprises me is the sole wear, I have put MAYBE 20 miles on these shoes and I have nearly worn through the rubber under the forefoot.

but after wearing these altras with the wide toe boxes we had to toss his old shoes.

My only complaint is after only 4 months of wear (average 14 hours a week), both uppers have started failing on the outside of the foot. However!!

The only problem I had with it was the lack of heel support.

The heel was too cushy which threw the balance of my forefoot off.

Just needs a touch more heel stability and then it would be perfect!

Has been over one month and around 200 miles and I'm starting to worry about some interior rubs on the heel.

When they fold over, oh my goodness they hurt me so much.

Aesthetically, the red coloring on the side is easy to scuff off, I just used a paint pen to “blend it”, it’s pretty obvious in my photo.

My pink toe and my son as well would rub a hole in the mesh of Nikes, and Brooks shoes.

If your feet are too wide, or your socks are thick or grippy, be mindful that these elastic supports can fold over.

Product: Altra M Torin 6 (Gray/Red) Pro: wide toe box and zero drop shoes are amazing.

They offer cushion and have a super wide toe box so your toes are not squished.

I had to get a whole size larger, the box toe doesn’t seem to be as wide, still does the job.

My Olympus 5 size 7 felt stiff and rigid so I was worried and wondered if I ordered the wrong shoes.

I ordered the Lone Peak 6 shoes, only to return them after getting blisters after wearing the shoes only once.

The extra padding by the heel, makes it a little harder to get my ortho.

I have wider feet and maybe would suggest ordering a 1/2 size up.

I bought a pair in Feb 23’ and July 23 and within a few months they both started to get holes on top.

Order at least a half size up
I bought these shoes for a trip to Rome.

While everything else fit well, my big toe was right at the end and I know it would be uncomfortable after a lot of walking.

The other thing is the laces are a pain to cinch up (whatever they are made of) and the tongue is uncomfortable.

I had to take out the liner inside and lace them further down due to the swelling in my feet from the plantar fasciosis.

The only thing I would say is get them a half to a full size bigger.

Too good to be true
I have been wearing vivobarefoot and other minimalist shoes for the last 10 years and recently found myself working in the medical field and needing something padded for standing on concrete all day

Ample padding (like standing on firm clouds) and the zero drop/foot shaped shoe that I am accustomed too.

When I previously tried some New Balance 880s, I LOVED the amount of cushion and support, so a blend of the two would be nice!

They are comfortable and great for wider feet.

These shoes are noticeably better on my toes due to the purposefully larger toe box.

I have wide feet and the box toe style is wonderful for me.

I used these to wear during my very active job and these shoes developed holes on the outside of each shoe that only got bigger with time.

After another two weeks, the softer fabric on the side of the toe-box had snagged and ripped, and has gradually grown with time.

If you’re willing to try them (frankly if you have PF you should try them) be sure and get ones that say “Maximum Cushion.” I haven’t been let down yet and while the Hoka’s are great the Altra’s are next level footwear.

Shortest laces in history
These laces have got to be the shortest laces I've ever dealt with.

Not very good ankle support, especially when you can't tie your laces properly.

The tongue of the shoe barely covered the top of my foot, the laces were very spread open and there wasn't enough left to even tie the shoe.

If you have high arches, these don't work
I have a strange foot, so I don't blame the shoe,

however, was that for people like myself with high arches, there simply isn't enough height in the shoe.
