While wearing them: (1) the lower backs of the heels were scrunched or creased; (2) the inside fronts of the shoes toe-boxes pulled back against my toes leaving no clearance, no matter how far back on the insoles I first put my feet, and; (3) they did so even despite the insoles and soles in fact being long enough for my feet!?!?

It became obvious WHY these problems when I looked at the shoes side-on while not wearing them, I noticed that the heels were not angled 90-degrees to the sole

but instead angled forward about 45 degrees; and when I tried to stretch the shoes' upper heels backward, i.e.

Hence, the top of the shoes' heels angle forward when not on feet.

Hence the effective upper band from toebox to shoe heel dictates where the shoes end up on the feet - being too short vs the sole length, they - from bottom of Achilles' tendons, pull the shoe's toebox back into the wearer's toes.

And hence also the crease in the bottom of the shoes' heels when wearing them.

However, perplexingly the longer size was still too short.

Initial thought was that perhaps this shoe model is just intrinsically shorter than average and I might have to go yet another size up.

My opening comment was that I really 'wanted' (past tense) these shoes as I found them to be unusable.

Unfortunately, being unusable as received, I had no option

Ok so for those of you who prefer to be barefoot or closer to I suggest you give these a try and see if they allow you that comfort you are looking for.

Potentially the perfect shoes for hiking, water sports, gym weight-training, etc., let alone general daily activities, and transitioning to natural bare feet.

Our trip to the beach was a success and these shoes helped keep our feet safe in a very convenient and comfortable way.

I would recommend tightening them with the elastic shoe lace, as I didn't and one fell off and floated away.

The only reason I did not give 5 stars is that the small rubber logo triangle at the top of the laces digs into my foot when I flex; it’s not painful

The grip is not that good on slippery river rocks.

I was concerned the water shoe would slip too much during my swing,

I walked 0.25 of a mile and my feet hurt so much I had to take them off and call a taxi.

This causes pain pretty quickly as well, just not as quickly as the mesh.

but I was walking gingerly and I literally took them off as soon as humanly possible with my feet looking like irritated polka dots stamped into them.
