They're not as durable as I'd like, some fraying form the heel on my last pair, and the soles are designed to be softer and for trail use so always walking on concrete will ware them faster.

But, the ankle padding at the back is really thick, so after wearing the shoes with thin socks for a few days, they now fit as expected.

Maybe if I bought a half-size larger would have helped.

I have since sent those back and am waiting for my credit to order a third pair.

At first I thought these shoes would be a too small because they're narrower and the toe is more rounded and blunt than my other Salomons.

My heels and mid-feet are simply too narrow for the shoes sold at most retail shops.

The tread is way grippier than that of TNF low hiking shoes I have for easy trails and for biking.

I took a chance on these X Crest hiking shoes, and have been gleefully galloping along the trails with nary a blister on the heel while I've worn them.

I never lost traction and my ankle and footing always feels secure and very comfortable while the strength of the shoe under my foot felt very strong like a soccer cleat.

I can lace up the shoe tight enough that my mid-foot and heel are nice and snug, yet there is enough room in the toe box that my toes can splay out without squishing against each other.


these are the best fitting and longest lasting and always dry shoes I've ever purchased.

My toes had plenty of room and fit perfect.

The size 11.5 fits my foot almost perfectly.

The X Crest shoe has finally provided me with the fit that I sought.

Aggressive midfoot arch in these also, so if you are flat footed I would recommend not buying.

The arch is huge in these too so they probably wouldnt suite people with flatter feet

At the end of my run in them, I felt pain in my arches, which is not my normal experience with barefoot shoes.

On the other hand, I think this, the arch support, and the stiff sole disqualify it as a 'barefoot' shoe.

Although I have a high arch, the Trail Glove arch support is prominent—if you have flatter arches, I would be wary.

After wearing the Vapor Gloves for three months, the Trail Glove’s arch was noticeably present each time I put the shoes on (after several minutes in the shoe, the arch feels normal and I forget about it).

Because the forefoot width was one of the major reasons that I've been a huge fan of these sneakers (5-6 pairs of earlier versions to date), this pair has been returned for a refund.


TIghter fitting than the vapour glove so id size up compared to those as the trail glove is very narrow.

I would have preferred that the Trail Glove had as wide a toe box as the Vapor Glove—my pinky toes seem too close to the outside of the shoe.

Recommend short distances to begin with if you haven't ran trails much, as there is very little cushion on these.

Otherwise, the sole should be flexible and thin while still offering some protection, so that the foot can do its job in absorbing impact.

In the Vapors, I felt every little pebble through the sole, to the point where I would often stumble or react from some sharp pain.

Great for cycling and switching to hiking without having to worry.

My normal shoe size is US 10.5M to 11M and I ordered 10 and10.5 with these and the 10.5 fit perfectly.

I had US 10M on the trail glove 5s, which fit well.

Using the innovative lacing system, I’ve discovered that I can dial in a closer fit for the Trail Glove’s uppers vs. the Vapor Glove’s.

However, one of the shoelaces snapped after wearing about three times.

Shoelaces should last longer than that and now I have no idea where to get a matching replacement.

My only modification will be to replace with thicker laces as the ones they come with are very thin.

These Salewa shoes are a better fir and more comfortable.
