I had a question about the fit in the toe box area; I contacted the seller and they were very helpful and easy to communicate with.

The wide toe box is a wonderful feature for me and a big part of why I wanted the shoes, because I have big toes, evidently, and many casual shoes are too small for me.

They are especially nice for people who need a wide toe box, which is hard to find.

They're well vented for cooling the feet , comfortable with space in the toe , good arch support and I've worn them as a mechanic for 10hr days on a cement floor and as an electrician out in the field.

I'm a farmer from Mississippi and it gets hot in the summer, so I was looking for a breathable tough shoe and this is it.

And because of the elastic strip they are super comfy.

That's the only for four out of five stars:  in a busy warehouse, it's not a great idea to be adjusting one's "shoe lace system" all the time.

but after wearing them at work a few times, I found the lacing system just not good enough.

A warning, though:  the whole system of ferrules and lacing is built around the plastic gizmo, it seems, so even without it, it's not as secure a hold on the upper foot as other shoes/boots.

NEWEST EDIT:  No, the lace retention system used by Keen is regrettably inferior.

Therefore, add another $10 US for the purchase of some actual Lock Laces or another replacement.

The lace retention system Keen chose to employ is inferior.

SO, the upshot is you can't really lace these like normal shoes.

but this "lace retention" system is bushleague garbage.

While the shoe is simple enough to tie with the spring clip in place in a normal fashion, the plastic end caps which compliment (yes, that's the correct spelling in this case) this system cannot be reassembled in any reasonable way.

However, they still look pretty cool, and the stock insole has been pretty good for me (haven't wanted to swap the insoles out yet).

The big downside is the tongue and the laces.

That gets at the second point that the laces are just terrible.

A cheap pair of Kiwi boot laces made all the difference.

If they added a tongue loop and fixed the laces, I'd buy these again in heartbeat.

Even with double opposing knots, they get loose in no time.

That means that they will tighten up at the bottom eyelets and get super loose at the top, making the loose knot even worse.

There isn't a tongue loop which was very surprising because they're so common I didn't even think to make sure it had one before buying.

I am on my feet for 8-12 hours a day and need a good shoe to suit my busy lifestyle, 8 months into having them the backs are ripped out of them, and the support for my heel is completely gone….

but at 5'10" 190 full size over and wide does not work for me.

Overall, the size fits about the same as any other steel toe shoe I've owned and they have a good amount of room in the toe box, which is usually what I'm most looking for.

Otherwise,  they are comfortable,  well fitting and generally a good boot.

Only downside is lack of arch support which I fix by wearing an insert.

The foot beds and toe boxes were previously wider than most brands, which I need and appreciated.

Have owned several Keen shows in the past that fit very well and are comfortable, including Uneeks.

My Keen sandals are much more comfortable.

While the long tears are unsightly, inside there's still a stronger material likely used for the inner lining for other 996's that keep his feet still inside the shoe for now,

but sad New Balance would try a different material (canvas) which is heavily inferior in durability, just for looks and not actually function.

Maybe New Balance just got their measurement off a bit or somehow moved the ankle bone cutout towards the rear of the shoe.

Don't buy the "Classic" look version of the 996 v5
My teenage son plays a lot of tennis and has worn the last 3 versions of this 996 model.

The cutout for your ankle bone is too small, so every time I take a step, my inside ankle bone would hit into the shoe and cause quite a bit of discomfort.

Just a word of warning that they do look cool and retro,
