Factory laces are substandard, and  frankly, cheap.

The side zippers are next to useless unless you've no ankle bones to speak of.

The problem is the left boot's zipper and ankle.

The zipper seemed stiff when I first got it and over time has degraded, the only way I can get it to zip is used two hands, one to pull back the inner rubber of the boot lining and other to pull up the zipper, it looks like the rubber was mis-cut and is getting ripped and shredded by the zipper.

but it is annoying to spend 5 minutes getting the zipper up on my boot.

First one snapped after 3 months, next one lasted about 6 total; I replaced with some Kevlar shoe laces which have held up on the right perfectly,

For perspective, I expect my boots to last at LEAST 2+ years, I wore desert storm combat boots (the original, not the new zipper ones) for 7 years before finally retiring them for these when they literally fell apart on me (back ankle broke through, bottom of the right boot came off multiple times, and my heels had worn through to the plastic bottom of the boot, no padding left at all, as well as 2 pairs of para cord shoe laces).

My recommendation after reading other reviews would be if there is anything wrong with either boot, return it immediately and get a new pair, seems the zipper problem is somewhat common of a quality control issue, had I known I would have returned them the day I got them for a pair that didn't have any issues to start with, then maybe I'd get 18 months out of them.

The boot fits uncomfortably tight at the heel for the first 6-7 days of wearing it.

but now my heel rubs and is bleeding by the end of the week.

Another issue I had with the boots was the heel.

The heel on the inside of the boots is hard plastic with no soft lining at all.

Your heel is basically rubbing a very hard plastic surface every  time you take a step.

It was shredding my heel, and I was only wearing them for an hour.

The back of my heal rubs against the back and in just a few months it's ripped away the padding.

Other minor problems is the back of both boots have a slight foam type coating around them which is starting to peel off, mostly from me kicking my boots off instead of totally unlacing them and pulling them off with my hands, hard to fault them to heavily for that.

I could not wear them for more than an hour or two, and that was mostly sitting in a truck driving around in march.

The Alphas are super light weight, affordable, the zipper is heavy duty and convenient, they're extremely comfortable, and durable.


These boots seemed like alright quality, The side zipper was heavy duty and worked quite well.

These are by far the best boots I have found on here they are way more sturdy the the others brands I have bought on here and the sole seems to be holding up well to bike riding and my every day walking.

The soles conform to my feet making for a comfortable walking boot.

They have been very comfy, nice squishy sole, I have dropped Diesel, Gasoline, Battery acid, Welding slag and Hydraulic oil on them and still they are in decent condition.

They are sharp looking boots, comfortable and affordable.

The factory insoles are surprisingly comfortable, supportive, and don't slide all over the inside of the boot.

Once it loses up it becomes a very comfortable boot.

Great traction in the recent snow and ice here and very warm for my feet

That being said, they are sturdy, break in quickly, and despite an aggressive tread, allow quiet movement.

As of now they have last 7 months and foresee them lasting another years easily.

1 year ago yesterday I bought these boots $91 good price compared to todays $120 which is starting to be in the Georgia boot, Chippewa, and Timberland Pro brand pricing.

(It being support, comfort and longevity) Buy the boots!


I ordered a 1/2 size larger than I usually wear and the fit was great.

The suede is stained and there are glue marks.

but I think the full asking price is too high and more to do with the Merrell brand hype - they are manufactured in China (as are many other leading brands)and for the full price would expect more expensive (not always better quality!!

These Merrill’s have a heavy duty sole that grips my pedals.

Best shoes
These shoes are great for those who have trouble walking or pain issues in feet or legs.

but rugged enough to go walk in the dirt.

I have had knee repair twice so a soft cushion sole is good for walking.

These are my go to shoes for walking and the Merrell quality on all their shoes are top notch.

Very convenient "slip-on"and light weight - can take a full days walking about town or a full day at the Art Studio doing "practical" stuff.

Size 10 is 13.5" long and 15" to the top of the liner (17" to the top of the fabric gator - that's the top of the calf).

And these feel quite tight (I'm size 10.5) - it's all that 15mm insulation.

Either the liner will have to compress or you'll need to size up.

Needless to say these will be returned and we will have to invest in a boot that will last him the winter.

He wore them for one shift with a temperature of 30F (no snow or mud) and his feet were cold.

but are good to be aware of: I need to wear high socks with these otherwise a short sock will fall under my foot after some walking AND the top edge rubs uncomfortably against my legs.

Overall i'm happy with the boots
Heavy duty boots.

However, I’ve had several stints since owning these boots of being outside for 3-4 hours straight with temps in the mid to upper 30s while walking around in standing water, muck, and slush and my feet have had no complaints!

If you’re used to walking around in snowboard or ski boots, you’ll feel right at home.

Boots is nice and flexible so it's easy to walk in.

These have a certain curve to the sole that makes them easier to walk in,

After having owned these boots for a few weeks now, my one-line review is as follows: Insulated and steel-toe for significantly under $100.

I’m convinced you’d be hard-pressed to find a boot at this price point that will satisfy its purpose better.

If you’re like me and you have the luxury of being in and out all day long at work, I think you’ll be happy with these boots.

That being said, I was shockingly comfortable those first two days in these boots!

Hubby and I run a dairy farm.

The boots have held up very well to tough use.

They get the best traction on ice of any boot we've ever had.

but they’re very comfortable otherwise so that helps (more on that next).

I live where temps get to as low as -40 C and these are still so warm.

They keep our feet toasty warm - anything much above 30 and they're too hot.

Super warm, very comfy, waterproof, and tough and not bad looking either.

but I clean them and spray heavy duty waterproofing silicone on and let that dry thoroughly, then I spray scotch guard on them and they stay mostly dry, and they still look great.
