I shouldn't have, these boots are very roomy, especially the toe box, almost too roomy.

If these don't feel great out of the box, they DON'T-WON'T improve.

I like the sole; it looks like a very capable hiking tread pattern made from Vibram MegaGrip, which is pretty good stuff.

Have been great for hiking and camping in the Australian bush.

Which is a good thing… they are very light weight and plenty of toe room.

I have sufficient room in the toes and ample room in the rest of the shoe for thick wool socks.

I used these shoes for 4-5 hikes in last two months in wet conditions and the glue seems to be wearing off.. the seams are opening and joints are peeling.

Both shoes lost waterproofing about 5 miles into a hike.

I suspect a seam somewhere has come loose as the front of the shoes is not waterproof at all anymore.

Comfort /Style
These are great light hiking boots, good support throughout and good traction pattern

They fit like a glove, and I appreciate the fact that they are not overly bulky like most hiking boots.

I found that the combo of old style insoles cut short so I could wiggle my toes and a lacing  variation for a high instep made the Altra trail shoes very comfortable.

After trying so many different brands I’ve finally found a boot that allows my ridiculously splayed toes to wiggle as I walk.

Not Water Proof They are super comfortable

Notably, these shoes were comfortable regardless of thickness of wool socks i wore.


Pros: Most comfortable hiking shoes I have ever worn.

but they’re so comfortable I’ll stick with this brand in future.

I am sold on Altras’ foot-shaped footwear.

I love the grip they offer and the waterproof design has kept my feet dry even when using a hose to spray off the dirt while still wearing them.

These shoes never let my feet get wet inside (though i did wear rain gear when needed).

These held up incredibly well for a 19 day Alaskan adventure complete with hikes through the tongass National forest, lots of rocky terrain, coastal environment.

My only other complaint is their claim of "waterproof".

That's when I wasn't sure for a minute if I felt the cold of the water or the wetness of the water.

I could feel the cold and some of the wet along the outside edges of my feet, and then when I got home and pulled them off and felt Inside, sure enough, wet, right where the sides meet the soles, so, they're NOT "waterproof" god damn it.

Just don't submerge your feet for an extended period of time which I'm sure these are not meant to do. But, I don't care what the hell they're "meant to do, don't say water PROOF, say "really really water resistant! "

The mesh near the back of the to ripped through and then the water proof membrane ripped there also letting water in.

Once they were no longer waterproof I ended up sending them back for a refund that took a couple weeks.

Anyway, I'm putting some Dr.Scholls gel inserts in mine asap That's my one complaint.

They don't fit the same as a normal shoe size.

Ended up having to order a size up and wide since it is a steel toe.

but I had lots of wear issues after a couple of months.

Earlier the rubber (seems like rubber material) on the toe wore through

but I was looking for something as a daily 'work' shoe that I would wear instead of boots in the summer months and these did not hold up.

I once worked in the rain for 4 hours on a roof and my socks stayed dry.

Walked 100' through 2" deep water along the edge of the puddle with water coming well up the sides of the shoe, so far i think its going well and my feet are still dry, i think,  then i stood in 3-4" deep water for 20 to 30 seconds covering the top of the shoes.

Actually I was surprised at how dry my feet were for the most part given the tests I did and these being mesh shoes. Buuuut.

So I get em yesterday,  wear em all day at work (they got more comfortable as the day went on), came home, took the dog for a walk in the field across the street where the big deep puddle is.
