The shoes came with a small defect around the last hole for the laces, it's not that much a deal for me to have them replace

The reviewers at REI mostly said the shoe runs small.

It is just a shame they appear to run, at least for my example, on the small side.

First, the tongue of the shoe does not have the little slot (sorry, I couldn't locate the correct term online) that you can run the laces through to keep the tongue from dropping into the shoe.

I was skeptical of the waterproofing since it's not labeled as being Gore-Tex (GTX) or any other popular waterproofing membrane.

It seems like I have always worn a "hiking shoe" as I find them to be a nice cross-over shoe between a regular tennis/running shoe and work shoe.

My husband consistently wears an 8.5 so bought an 8.5 and they fit.

FIT & COMFORT I wear a size 10 in nearly every brand, and these Kodiak shoes were no exception.

They'll work well for moderate length, mostly flat trails, and they'll look great for regular around-town wear as well.

They fit well right out of the box and didn't require any real break-in time.

Sizing runs large
The sizing didn't fit correctly for my narrow feet and they weren't a light weight as I would have expected.

Like the title says I ordered a 9 and its for a wide foot and the length feels like a 9.5 maybe because of the wide open feel of the toe.

If I don't tie the laces super tight the heel comes off when I walk. Disappointed.

I returned them for something with more flexibility and less weight.

I bought these for hiking shoes that would be easy on and off, and they did not disappoint!

but not long into the walk were loose enough but still sturdy to keep my ankles stable.

However they are NOT slip resistant, and in fact are the slipperiest shoes I have ever owned.

I kid you not, I slid the entire length of my driveway (over 10 feet), while standing completely still.

I returned them because they were too uncomfortable to wear.

but will never wear them while hiking or in any icy conditions.

Buy the adidas ones instead and save yourself the trouble.

Consider buying 1/2 size smaller than usual.

I play disc golf on the regular and I’m no longer afraid to go play the day after it rains, my feet stay dry all day!

My feet stayed dry while walking in rainy conditions  throughout my entire trip.

although the shoes were exposed to a fair amount of water, my feet stayed nice and dry.

Twice now I have tried to order the style again, and both had to be returned due to the size being all around too big, not like my original pair.

Also the hook loop in the back to help you pull on the shoes really does nothing because of the lip on the heel of the back of the shoe is pushed down constantly when you are putting your foot in the shoe so the loop does not fix that problem, you still have to wrestle in an out to get the lip of the shoe heal back up after pushing it down when you're putting your shoe on if that makes sense it's quite a wrestle

These hiking shoes were comfortable on the first day I hiked in them.

My opinion is, I never felt as sure footed, as I felt in these, ever in my other hiking shoes.

My recommendation, if you are looking for sturdy shoes, to hike in and also to work in.
