The shoes came with a small defect around the last hole for the laces, it's not that much a deal for me to have them replace

The reviewers at REI mostly said the shoe runs small.

It is just a shame they appear to run, at least for my example, on the small side.

First, the tongue of the shoe does not have the little slot (sorry, I couldn't locate the correct term online) that you can run the laces through to keep the tongue from dropping into the shoe.

I was skeptical of the waterproofing since it's not labeled as being Gore-Tex (GTX) or any other popular waterproofing membrane.

STYLE The first thing that struck me is that these hiking shoes actually look pretty fashionable!

For the price, I'm pretty happy with these hiking shoes.

It seems like I have always worn a "hiking shoe" as I find them to be a nice cross-over shoe between a regular tennis/running shoe and work shoe.

FIT & COMFORT I wear a size 10 in nearly every brand, and these Kodiak shoes were no exception.

They'll work well for moderate length, mostly flat trails, and they'll look great for regular around-town wear as well.

They fit well right out of the box and didn't require any real break-in time.

Over all I was quite impressed with these hiking shoes, having used them to hike several trails around the greater Phoenix area.

And funnily enough, they also seem to be rather water resistant.

He's worn them in the rain and through puddles and never got wet feet.

He's also wearing them now that is's 80 outside, so they are good for all temps.

These shoes are a replacement for a pair my husband had for 10 years.

Excellent technical trekking shoes - Firm and excellent traction

The media could not be loaded.

They are firm, providing security to your walk on various terrains, I have tried it on loose stones, stones, wet grass both climbing and descending.

They are comfortable, have a generous toe box, and provide support when on his feet all day.

These boots were just what my husband needed and have helped him so much in his work.

My opinion is, I never felt as sure footed, as I felt in these, ever in my other hiking shoes.

My recommendation, if you are looking for sturdy shoes, to hike in and also to work in.

They jumped right on that and allowed us to pick out another pair of boots with a generous discount allowance for their error.

I wear a size 13, and these were too small by at least a half size.

After about a year, regardless of tread, they get soft.

They hurt the soles of my feet every time, its like walking in a pair of cinderblocks in both comfort and weight.

This summer, with the wet grass on trails and rain,  I left them in sun to dry several times and maybe the heat made my feet swell a little bit-- so now in August they are uncomfortable--so I recommend ordering 1/2 size larger so toes do not feel cramped.

Red bugs can penetrate the tiny ventilation holes in the sides.

Sadly had to return because they were so narrow.

I wear a 7 1/2 N in a regular shoe medium cotton sock and had perfect fit.

In addition they are very light and fit true to their size I wear a seven and a seven fits perfect I would wear thin socks with them I like the fit.

In In comparison, those fit well with no problems.
