The Bass shoes have a very thick sole and cushion apparatus and this is the first area where the shoes don't exactly compare to the Columbia hikers.

The Bass shoes require a bit of a break-in because they are quite stiff and the thick sole and cushion don't have much initial give.

I do feel a bit extra-tall due to the very thick soles.

I probably need to tie the laces more because when I walk, the foot comes out a bit from heels.

Negatives: high and stiff side edges rub a little beneath the ankle- may want to wear thicker socks.

Hard / plasticky upper fabric finish breathes / cools OK given that it is water resistant.

but fabric flexes enough to synch to foot shape for support and comfort.

Good and sturdy without being too bulky
The low top of these reduces some of the bulk associated with hiking footwear, so that's already a plus.

That said, they're sturdy, comfortable, and stylish (as much as that matters when hiking).

They are amazingly rugged shoes that wear well and are extremely comfortable.

My recent Columbia shoes were immediately comfortable and I could have taken them rock hopping the day I bought them.

Surprisingly, the 10.5 fits snugly, similar to how a size 10 would fit.

I noticed after walking around all day in these that my achilles tendon started to ache, which is totally new for me when it comes to footwear.

but the 1st day walking on a trail any wet grass at all and the water soaked right through the shoe.

But while MQM Ace had Vibram soles, these Flex have Merrell soles, which regrettably don't seem particularly durable- I'm already missing 2 lugs on one shoe after merely 1 run and 1 hike, albeit a very rocky one.

I have had these for less than six months and they soles are missing studs.

But Merrell has never been great with insoles.

Size is a little smaller than expected (1/2 size smaller than Merrell Moabs).

Overall, it is not the best hiking/trail shoe I have had and a miss by Merrell.

I will be contacting the manufacturer as I would expect a much better product from Merrell.

Two, they are only somewhat water resistant.

The mesh fabric breathes well, which is great for cooling,

One thing these have going for them is that they are super light.

I hike everyday in AZ (Phx area) & yes even in triple digit heat during the summer.

On my first trail I put these shoes to the test by hiking the most unforgiving terrain/mountain I hike -lots of loose & jagged, hard (mostly granite) rock & they performed well.

MQM Flex seem just as comfortable and perhaps have even better traction than MQM Ace due to pretty sizeable lugs on the sole.

This is a comfortable shoe that was sized accurately.

These run about 2 full sizes small I am a 9.5 street shoe I bought a 9.5 and 10.5 and had to return both way to much cramming in the 9.5 maybe an 11 will do

I have a narrow foot and the biggest issue I was having was that most shoes are loose on the sides even when my toes are in pain.

This didn't happen to me when i wore shoes of the same size from another brand, I can only deduce that the cutting should be a big smaller than what i'm used to.

Another half size up and I think I would have been fine, still tight with the toes slightly arched.

Without socks these are tight and my toes are arched.

though when I find my size in store I like the hemp lining and velcro feels like a very solid shoe.

The hemp lining surprisingly does actually remove a lot of the odor associated with synthetic shoes,

Comfortable
This is my first climbing shoes

Great for routes and gym climbing
These shoes are great for climbing vertical or slab climbs.

but the fit is amazing for people with wide feet, which is hard to find in a pair of climbing shoes.

They seem to work better than the rentals for climbing

I'm able to wear them the entire time at my local climbing gym without pain.

Still these shoes hold up quite well, and feel amazingly comfortable after climbing for hours.

but that hasn't affected my climbing so far.

My toes are curled, sides are tight, and they are comfortable.

but a narrow or small foot, I would strongly advise you to look elsewhere.

Which is disappointing, after scouring the reviews and being aware of others saying how tight the toe box is and the narrow cut, I decided to give it a try due to Amazon's return policy allowing me to take a chance.

After about 50 yards the bunching up of my toes and the constant friction on my heels caused me to take them off and return  home with the spare sandals I had taken with me just in case. Using some simple algebra I did some math to get the ratios of width to length of the shoe, even ordering another size (or two!)

though it would give my toes and heels an excess of room lengthwise, the width would still be too narrow for comfort and my foot would constantly be sliding back and forth inside the shoe from the excess length.

but did not last as long as I expected
Purchased this in February 2023 for work and on 16th August noted it hat a split near the sole.


Son walks on these everyday and the soles didn’t last

I had to remove the inserts that came with it, they were too thin and provided no arch support, I have very low arches and have several inserts that do a good job of keeping my feet and back pain free.

I was barely able to fit those inserts into the shoe, which is a first, every other shoe I own accepted my collection of inserts as if custom-made for them.

Another sign their sizing is off, particularly along the sides as the inserts bowed up just before the toe box.

I was barely able to fit my foot into the shoe, it was literally  heel to toe contact with a concerning snugness, I could tell without needing a long hike, this would chew up my heels and bruise my lead toes.

I consulted their sizing chart on several of their products and right off I will say it's off by a little over half a inch.

And they are showing zero signs of wear on the fabric or tread.

My two hiking shoes are the only ones I’ve ever gotten where are on them the other pair I have is a nicer dress your shoe bought it three years ago still have it it works great souls amazing,

but the hiking shoes, both of them each went up three 14k footers here in Colorado before they got any damage or holes or anything like that in them.

Firstly the laces are to short making them a little hard to fasten and no chance of doing a double bow.

Second issue is the metal lace holes, the edges are quite sharp, meaning after only a few weeks they are cutting into the laces which will need replacing soon.

The Archfit logo / patch located on the tongue of the shoe is VERY thick.

So thick as to make lacing the shoe strange, as the laces don't like to criss-cross properly on this.

And when you put the shoe on, the laces press this rigid rubber patch down on the top of your foot, so you feel it when walking in them.

I am not sure why the laces are so short, if you go through every eyelet they are not long enough to really tie the shoe.

Even skipping some eyelets I can't seem to avoid the patch as the top row of eyelets mean the final lace goes across the top of this patch, there is not enough room above the patch and still on the tongue to have the laces not on top of, or pushing down on this patch.

However, the metal eyelets shred the shoe laces.

Really stiff
The shoes are kind of heavy so beware.

but that make the sole of the shoe quite stiff.

The break in period seems to be a little long, I wore these as my daily show for a month and they were still a bit on the stiff side.

Lighter and softer than all leather -- bunions will appreciate  -- and much sturdier than fabric alone.

These Men's Skechers Arch Fit Recon Harbin shoes are the best all around hiking shoes I've bought in the past 20 years (I had settled for LL Bean for years) .

Nice and comfortable and don’t look too oap like a lot of sketchers!

They are very high quality with long wearing GoodYear rubber soles, great true fit (size 9), and are extremely comfortable for all day trail hiking.

The shoe was close to comfortable, had to take a hair drier to the toe box to stretch out, a tennis ball stuffed into the toe of a show and then heat it up with a drier.

I ordered a 13 and I’m a 12 and they ft well.

I like them so much that I bought three more pair (two black and one grey) to hold in reserve for if/when my first set eventually wears out.

The Archfit insole is why I buy Skechers.

I gave this product a three only because these boots most sit in a where house for months or longer.

Do not hold up like my old pair
While in the Army, I used to wear jungle boots all the time.

Within 2 weeks the sole in the toe area on the right boot let loose.

Since then, I've noticed the rest of that boot and the other starting to get loose around the sole and there appears to be some cracking in the leather around the bottom also.

So basically - I don't give these boots a very high review.

OK quality, way too big sizing
First off, I would like to say that the sizing on these boots is at least two sizes off.

REgardless, the the boots were still waaay to big for all of us.

After a week of canoeing and portaging somewhat frequently, the boots were about ready to fall apart.

but they wear quickly
Well, my husband bought these boots for work, where he is on his feet for 8-16 hour shifts 5 days a week.

Both my brother and my dad threw theirs away because theirs were just unusable when we were done.

The leather upper is cracking where it creases when you walk.

but they’re not good for everyday wear.

I bought an 11 because a 12 was too big (I wear a 12.5 wide) and found they were a little tight.

However, I'm a bit disappointed with the soles because they have worn quickly when compared with other brands.

though worn do not look anything like his.

His literally have gouges missing on the heel and the toe is almost worn smooth.
