They are “Leather + PU.” Otherwise known as fake leather.

So, I have to conclude that these are counterfeit or Nunn Bush has now cheaped out.

Even with socks, the pressure on the back of my ankle is my biggest complaint,

But, one time I was putting them on and then back heel “rolled” and is now forever “broken” You will need to always use a shoe horn with these, if you try to slide your foot in, the stiff material in the heel wall may break and fold in upon itself.

For a slip on, one would expect more sturdy heel material to than whatever thin plastic broke in half.
