Unfortunately there is no Velcro strap or tie ring to secure the heel to the foot, which you can feel when you walk.

Tightening the laces doesn’t really work either.

I will probably try to stitch rings around the ankle area to try and fix the tie down issues and maybe put some hard plastic on the rest of the boot to make it a little bit more accident resistant,

All day I kept taking off boots to remove loose pebbles because it was uncomfortable 🥴

The boot wiggles when you move your foot and there is no way to tie it correctly because there is nothing to tie down in the first place.

but to make matters worse the rest of the boot outside of the steel toe is very cheap thin cloth.

If you have an accident like a metal beam or truck tire hit your foot you better hope it hits the toe area and only the toe area because the rest of the boot is basically thin cloth.

but of course it would be since there is no real sturdy material outside of the metal toe and bottom tread.

They only has EEEE and the heel is a bit too wide.

but the Eddie Bauer boot did not fit correctly; either too big or too small--probably because a wide width was not available.

New Balance does run a little narrower than most USA brands,

A few notes: 1) not as wide as many 4E's,

If you struggle with 4E width being slightly narrow, these might not be the right choice.

I wear out a pair of Walmart boots about every 6 months and wasn't really surprised when they started coming out of the box ill-fitting.

All of the above is to say these are the slipperiest shoes I have possibly ever worn; far worse than the Asics or any of the hiking boot/shoes.

It truly takes the joy out of hiking when you are not able to take regular strides because you are worried about slipping and then, you slip anyway.

left and right shoes do not feel the same size and visually lack symmetry.

These boots are very lightweight, not much heavier than sneakers, so they don't slow me down like some boots.

They are very supportive, despite the light weight.

I would buy them again, based on the limited selection in 12 4E, provided I was buying a lightweight duty/hiking boot.

Another Great Product From New Balance
I buy New Balance shoes because they come in a wide width.

Like other New Balance Shoes, I am very happy with this shoe.

but that does not diminish my like and endorsement of this New Balance hiking shoe.

Anyway, I gladly paid more for the New Balance shoe because it fits correctly and my experience and opinion is that New Balance makes a superior product.


I loved this shoe, always the best quality and reliability from New Balance!

I have had many different hiking boots (Vasque Monolith, Keen Utility Flint, Dunham Cloud, Carhartt CMH4375, Merrell Moab and Moab 2) and all of them are far superior to regular trainers for traction when hiking.

Great boots
This is the best boots that I ever bought they're comfortable right out of the box they are waterproof no issues whatsoever I highly recommend and I have plantar fasciitis and absolutely no pain!

Comfortable and supportive, good for drilling, and the zipper makes for easy on/off during quick changes for PT.

These boots are the most comfortable I've owned as an adult.

Other then that they are good boots and worth the buy so long as you can keep your footing in slippery areas

These are everything that I need tactical/duty boots.

but after a day or two of break in now they fit well.
