I got the wide and there's lots of room for my toes and wide feet.

but with medium weight socks my feet settle comfortably into these 8.5 medium width sneakers.

These have a slightly wider toe box then some other columbia hiking shoes and were very comfortable

What I did like, unlike many other Columbia trail shoes, is that this shoe had enough room to add an appropriate insole which does have good arch support without making my feet feel like they were stuffed inside the shoe with no room to wiggle.

I use these as a general garden and landscape trail shoe as they are lightweight with a little water resistance and have the airflow needed to not make my feet sweat especially in summertime temperatures.

They are a good basic trail shoe at a good price.

I went for a hike without breaking them in before and they were super comfortable.

I just wore these all over Utah and Arizona hiking and never slipped once.

Thought I was ordering slip on shoes I received them and they have laces to tie I'm rather disappointed for $150 the images hide the rest of the laces making people think they are just slip on shoes.

However this updated version has it all: wide toe box

They stick to just about everything and the wide forefoot makes for a nice stable platform.

A great follow up to the previous version
I have a pair of much loved, yet rather dingy, Mountain Racer 2s that are pretty much my favorite trail shoes ever.

That said, I can say that the ride right out of the box is very smooth and stable.

Plenty of room in the toe box for my Injinji-clad piggies to splay out, and no rubbing or irritation.

but close fitting throughout the rest of the shoe (so no sliding around inside the shoe), 5mm drop (not too high - not too low), Zipfoam midsole, plush tongue and heel cups, Vibram outsole (the best! ), decent lugs for traction, laces that never come undone (the only shoes I don’t have to double-knot!)

The extra padding and updated foam make my feet happy on long runs and technical trails.

The Vibrim outsole remains unchanged and is awesome.

They run really small
4 stars because the extreme discrepancy in sizing.

I ended up returning my size 10 womens (I typically wear 9.5 and go to 10 for things like running shoes and hiking footwear) and instead got a MENs size 10.5!

The womens sizes didn’t go up high enough/have higher sizes available.

I ended up getting the womens equivalent of a size 11.5 which is kind of insane to me

They run really slender, so if you have really skinny feet (I’d say my feet are very much average slenderness) maybe you don’t need to size up more than a half size.

But the womens 10s for me weren’t long enough either, so either way, size up!

The sizing is a little tricky which is why I am writing this review in the hopes it helps someone else.

For my narrow foot, the fit is great and I can stand longer in these than other shoes.

but happily the 10.5 gave me the extra length I needed without adding too much extra width.

but there's a wide enough toe box to spread out.

Comfortable trail shoe
Bought these shoes in a different color because I already had a pair and love them.

So glad I landed on these La Sportiva Trail Shoes.

The fit is excellent -- low volume forefoot means my foot isn't swimming

but now that I have them in a size that fits I love them.

I ordered the 9/10 and they fit perfectly!

I can wear them for a 16 hour workday with zero discomfort.

The mid-foot is snug when laced up tight and my otherwise normal heel doesn't slip with normal lacing techniques (I didn't need to tie it with the heel lock technique).

They're so comfortable I haven't taken them off yet.

Next I like the wide sole, giving stability and grip.

The lacing system is clever as the laces are gripped at each turn giving you the ability to have tight/less tightly laced sections throughout the shoe.
